Isoamyl Butyrate (IBIB)
IBIB is an economical moisture resistant solvent widely used in nitrocellulose lacquers, plastic based coatings and high solids coatings. It is a low volatile solvent with good leveling and anti-whitening properties. For nitrocellulose, it is an excellent ammonia ester grade effective solvent. IBIB’s low surface tension properties allow it to play an active role in applications where wet substrates need to be improved. In addition, IBIB’s low water solubility also makes it an excellent moisture control solvent in moisture sensitive coatings such as 2-mulled ammonia kool. IBIB’s high electrical resistance value also helps to adjust the coating resistivity in the use of electrostatic spray equipment.
